Historical WWI Context
The monument was erected to commemorate the soldiers fallen in these lands, who fought bravely during the First World War. The battle carried on the main axes of the Slanic, Oituz, and Casin Valleys in Bacau County had a strategic goal both for the Central Powers that aimed to gain access via the Trotus Valley towards Onesti and then to reach Adjud in order to make a junction with the offensive armies fighting at Marasesti, and for the Romanian Army, whose main goals were to ensure the defence and to maintain the front line. The strategic success was on the side of the Romanian Army, even in the context of a small scale real advance of the enemy.
