WWI monument Nove Hrady, Czech Republic
Steel sculpture with a nature stone as pedestal. The smoothed sculpture on purpose is not given a protective covering; it is suppoed to become completely rusted over the years as part of its symbolism. No inscriptions, the years 1914 and 1918 are cut out. Author Daniel Cerny. The sculture was made as part of the Danube Transnational Programme project Networld. Redoing of the monument area will be completed in 2018 and 2019. NAmes of the fallen soldiers will be mentioned on a separte shield, also mentioning the dates and locations of death and the villages they were born.

Historical WWI Context
Men from the historic Town of Nove Hrady were drafted into the k.u.k.91 Infantry Regiment. That regiment fought first on the Russian front in the Galica area, and later along the Isonzo front. A monument for Czech soldiers fallen along that front was restored on Mrzli Vhr, Slovenia, in 2016. The new monument will become part of a new WWI heritage trail and will be linked to the locations where the sodliers died.
