WWI monument Kojakovice, Czech Republic

When coming back from the war, village people asked/agreed that local son Jan Kojan should make a sculpture in memory of the soldiers from the village fallen during WWI. The sculputere is unique and only one of three sculptures the now famous Czech painter ever made.

Historical WWI Context

Jan Kojan and a several other people from Kojakovice fought on the different fronts during WWI. Some of the villagers also fought in the so-called Czech Legion, which was fighting on the side of the allied forces.

Upon his return, village people asked/agreed that Jan Kojan should make a sculpture in memory of the soldiers from the village fallen during WWI. The sculputere is unique and only one of three sculptures the now famous Czech painter ever made.

The village of Kojakovice is part of the Municipality of Jilovice. The village is situated at the edge of the Unesco Trebon Biospere Reserve and Protected Landscape Area. It is in a region with a very high tourism for nature, culture, and history. Nearby Ceske Krumlov (40km) is a Unesco World Heritage Town with over a million visitors per year. The historic town of Ceske Budejovice is the main town of the region, and the eightst biggest town of the Czech Republic with over 190 000 inhabitants in the metropolitan area.

The historic town of Trebon (10 km) used to be the final seat of the Rozmberk family and a major visitors center as well.
