Military cemetery and heroes memorials in Balassagyarmat, Hungary
Heroes cemetery- the graves of the WWI are dated from October 1914 when arrived in the city over 15.000 refugiats and solders, among them an entire military hospital and the cholera disease break out. Later one in 1916 after the Romanian invasion the refugiats families are burried, fallowed by the victims of the Czech invasion in 1919. In the cemetry are the graves of victims of an 1934 military accident and of solders from the WWII. The military cemetary in 2015 was renovated from funds received from the Ministry of Defence.
WWI memorial1 in Palóc park made by Hugó Keviczky in 1929: the original place was between the mayor house and the court house but in 1937 the Madách statue was established it was moved to the park. Later one was depicted several times , before WWII had a bronze colour after in 2005 and 2016 it was coloured to white.It was build from donations.
WWI memorial 2. in heroes square with the monument of the 16th infantery made by Jenő Körmendi-Frim in 1937. In 1967 when the Soviet memorial construction started it was moved to the Palóc park, later in 1991 it was removed to its original place. The memorial after the battle at Don was extended with a marble plaquet commemorating 50 years from the battle of the troops of the 23 infantery.
WWI memorial 3. Patrona Hungaria made in 1927 is a donation of the congregation of St. Maria.
WWI plaquet in the Balassi Bálint gymnasium is made on bronze and marble and commemorates in 1926 the 25 year establishment of the gymansium and the heroes of WWI mong them teachers and 45 pupils. The work was done by the artist János Branceisz.
