Historical WWI Context
The idea of keeping the memory of those who died in the wars is familiar to the Razgrad citizens. It arises after the end of the WWI. Real evidenced for this could be finding in the local newspaper "Razgradsko Slovo". An initiative committee has been set up and funds have been gathered, but nothing happens because of some political reasons. Not until the early 90s of the 20th century the idea of building such a monument was re-raised and an initiative committee was set up again. The monument was opened with official ceremony on the 5th of May, 1995, by Jean Videnov - a minister if the internal affairs. The monument was created by the idea of arch. Vesselin Kraeshnikov and its sculptor was Lyubomir Dobrev. The monument preserves the names of the deceased Razgrad citizens in the Serbian-Bulgarian, Balkan, WWI and WWII. Every year there were commemorative events fn the following dates: May 6, May 9, Archangel Michael’s, as well as on Bulgarian national holidays.
