Cemetery of Romanian and German Soldiers in Bordesti, Vrancea County, Romania
The cemetery was set up between 1930 and 1932, with the support of Germany.
It has the shape of a cone trunk, with a surface of 2,580 square meters, and it is surrounded by brick walls. It is structured on three levels; it features a richly ornamented gate, a 3 m high monumental cross with an inscription that is both simple and full of meaning: "PRO-PATRIA". The entrance is bordered by two colonnades bearing the following inscriptions: "Here lie Romanian and German soldiers, fallen in these places, in the war that took place during 1916 and 1919." The cemetery shelters a total of 5,554 both known and unknown soldiers, of which 999 were Germans and the rest were Austrians, Italians, Russians, and Romanians.
