Historical WWI Context

The monument was built in memory of the heroes who fought in the First World War. The First World War, with its sharp battles within the region of Vrancea, then, the Austro-German occupation, also brought about serious damage to this area. It is important to add that the Hill of Odobesti (Magura Odobesti) becomes the headquarters of the German Command during this period, and the area gets inspected in 1917 by Kaiser Wilhelm II himself, who made an overnight stay in Odobesti.
