First World War Military Cemetery Gorjansko, Slovenia

The Austro-Hungarian military cemetery lies to the north-west of the village of Gorjansko, in the direct vicinity of the civil cemetery. Buried in it are Austro-Hungarian soldiers who died in the nearby hospital. The monumental part of the cemetery was completed during the War, in July 1916; the cemetery has retained its original appearance, with the exception of now missing stone crosses and marble plates with inscribed names on collective graves. According to the data of Italian authorities that organized exhumation of soldiers from military cemeteries in the 1930s, 6015 soldiers remain interred here. The military cemetery of Gorjansko is the best preserved World War One military cemetery on the Slovenian territory.
