Military Cemetery Zbojné

The Military Cemetery in Zbojné is located north of the village in the locality called Pod Hrabinami. The archive component of this cemetery is marked by the old name of the village Vyšne Zbojné. In the inter-war period, the gendarmerie station in the city of Vyrava was to be taken care of by this cemetery.

The archive component is incomplete and raises more questionnaires than answers. The number of graves can only be determined according to the sketch. Unfortunately, there are a variety of graves on two different sketches. A more accurate sketch depicts 34 graves. Graves are marked with Arabic numerals. It is not possible to precisely determine the numbers of individual grave species. The data on the cadastral list only indicate the number of 25 graves, which obviously disagrees with one sketch. Many bills are missing, so we will not get the correct data by analyzing these sheets. It is a great hurry that the sketch does not show any kind of grave with some graphic symbol. According to the estimate, there could be four mass graves (No. 2,17,18,34), four common graves (No. 1, 3, 15, 16) and 26 individual tombs. This claim, but can not be confirmed by flawless evidence.

Historical WWI Context

Together there are about 100 victims buried there. The record sheets have been little preserved and not all of them are precisely filled in. We know the citizenship of 18 victims. There are 12 members of the German army and 6 Austro-Hungarian soldiers buried here. We also know the identity of these soldiers. Badly filled bills indicate the grave number in which the victim was buried in only 10 cases. From the sketch it follows that in the graves no. 1, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13 and 15 are buried only by soldiers of the German army. In the remaining graves, the Austro-Hungarian soldiers are apparently found dead. The presence of the victims of the Russian army in this cemetery, the archival documents do not prove or even exclude.
